Frequently Asked Questions
Traditional schools place most of their emphasis on memorization and the retention of content knowledge, verified through standardized testing and grades. We believe that to be successful in tomorrow's world, students are better off focusing on skills and experience above all else. Our curriculum includes emphasis on core academics, physical fitness, critical thinking exercises, project based learning, entrepreneurship, public speaking, and a self-directed love of learning approach.
We measure our young leaders by a series of metrics that highlight and demonstrate competency in areas critical to success in the real world. Through a combination of digital portfolios, badge systems, and tangible work projects, we will document a journey of meaningful skills learned and milestones attained. If college is the goal, traditional transcripts can be created from all work performed.
A leader led classroom gives students the opportunity to lead their own growth. We work directly with parents to help their young leaders set agreed upon goals and then our guides help the students achieve these outcomes. Our guides act as mentors, not lecturers. They ask meaningful questions, coach character development, foster reflection, and help drive intentional and thoughtful action.
As our students mature, they take on progressive leadership responsibilities, such as mentoring peers, leading discussions, or managing group projects. This gradual shift builds confidence, independence, and a deep sense of ownership. Rather than simply following directions learners become problem solvers and decision makers.
The skills that Apogee Denton students learn are designed to be applicable across college, entrepreneurship, or the workforce. From the hands-on projects to the public exhibitions and entrepreneurial challenges, the work completed is designed to develop critical thinking, creativity, time management, and leadership. These skills are essential and valuable for any future path they choose.
We are currently accepting ages 8-13 years old for the 2026-2027 school year. We plan to open up the lower ages (5-7) when we bring on more staff and will grow into the upper ages (17-18) year by year as our current students age into this range. Our long term vision is an educational environment serving young leaders throughout the K-12th range.
Apogee Denton is located at Journey Fellowship Church in Denton, TX. Our address is 2227 N. Carroll Blvd. Denton, TX 76201
Apogee Denton is a private, independent learning center, but we are not accredited by the State of Texas. This is an intentional decision. Accreditation would require us to follow state-mandated curriculum, testing, and oversight, which runs counter to our mission of preserving educational freedom and parental sovereignty.
Because of this, state-funded school vouchers are not currently available for Apogee families. While we support educational choice, we also believe that state funding often comes with strings that compromise the very independence and innovation that make alternative models like ours so powerful. Instead, we offer founding family rates, flexible payment plans, and scholarship opportunities to help make this model accessible to mission-aligned families.
If there is ever an opportunity to become accredited in a way that does not limit our freedom as parents and educators, we have full intentions of pursuing this course to make vouchers available to families.
While Apogee Denton does not promote any one religion, many of our tenets are rooted in a Western perspective. Our values include personal responsibility, integrity, rational thinking, perseverance, justice, and other morally based perspectives. This overlaps with Christianity and other world traditions, and discussions around the historical and moral significance of these matters may take place as part of being a free and independent learner.
